"Where should I start?" 

First, some facts to think about:

• Research shows that children are most likely to commit or be the victims of crime between 3 and 6 pm.   in other words -- the after-school hours.
• Only 6% of our children are in after-school programs

You can support the growth and success of after school programs.

1.)Send the link to this website to your friends:

   www.rochesterchildrenwrite.com.  Be an advocate.  Talk about this issue with everyone who'll listen!

2.) Volunteer your time: 
School tutoring programs and after school programs use volunteer help. 

• Call a city school and ask what volunteer options are available during and after school.  Go to:.  www.RCSDK12.org for more information.

• Many Faith-based groups are very involved in educational support programs.  Call your own or a neighborhood church or temple and find out what programs they can refer you to.  You usually do not have to be a member to participate in these programs as a volunteer.

5 sites.  After school and Saturday programs support education, health and life skills, sports.

3.) Monroe Co. Library system   www.libraryweb.org
Call 428-8450 for information or call a neighborhood branch library
Volunteers work at after-school Teen Centers at several branches where  computers are available. for teen use
Other offerings such as reading a story hour with younger children are available at some sites. 

4.) Third Presbyterian Church, Rochester,  supports tutoring programs at School #6 and School #35.  Call 585-271-6513 for  information, or email SMASUE1@hotmail.com.    These programs use volunteers during the school day only.

• Make a  Tax-deductible donation: 
• Third Church's  School #6 fund  supports these children writers and their schoolmates by providing extras such as needed clothing and school supplies, as well as  additional classroom enrichment opportunities.
